Dreaming of a New Bathroom

After Eric and I get married, we have big plans to rip out both of our bathrooms and our kitchen. I'm not sold that we need a new kitchen, even though ours is from 1954 and has all of its original pieces, including the stove, but I am 110% convinced that we need new bathrooms STAT. I don't have any pictures of our existing restrooms to show you right now because there isn't much to see. I'll describe our upstairs bathroom for you though -- everything in it is from 1929, when our house was built, with the exception of our vanity, which might be from the 1960s and is hideous and gross and needed to be ripped out and demolished ... yesterday.

I keep looking at pictures of bathrooms and fantasizing about what ours will look like when they are done, and I keep bookmarking bathrooms I see around the Internet that just make my heart flutter (yes, after living with my wretched excuses for bathrooms, including one that has a shower that's held together with lap piping -- long story, I'll tell you about it another time -- thoughts of new bathrooms really get me going).

What are your thoughts? Which of these do you like? Or do you think we should do something totally different? Keep in mind that our space is small!

Or should we do something like this?

I think it's safe to say I love white subway tiles, black and white tiled floors and NEW FIXTURES that LOOK old (done the old fixtures that ... are old ... overit.)

Okay, your turn. If you could have a dream a bathroom, what would it look like?

  1. The style of bathtub/shower in the last picture is similar to one of the other bathrooms of your past. Picture looks pretty, but I imagine the water going ALL OVER when you turn that thing on haha. I love more modern showers -- big, open spaces with waterfall shower heads and no need for a shower curtain that gets mildewy and stuck on the rod above the shower. Also, I'm clumsy and sometimes I trip getting in and out of a tub. But that's just me haha.

Oh, and if this is really my *dream* bathroom, I would take a separate tub/jacuzzi for the times when I want to take a bath. I find that I don't ever really use the tub when it is connected to the every-day use shower :)

    1. Katie, you make MANY EXCELLENT points! I will have to nix the claw foot tub, even though I once enjoyed the one in our apartment so much (sort of -- sometimes the water pressure was a little ... weak, if you recall). I would LOVE to have a separate bath/jacuzzi but I don't think the space in our bathroom allows for something like that! I will have to continue the search for the ultimate shower/tub combination!

  2. I love love love the color scheme on the last one, it's so bright & fun! I also really like the frame collections that are in a few of the photos, that is a great idea for a bathroom! I really like the way white subway tile looks when its brand new but it can get dirty quick and start to look dated. If you do go that direction, I would do the darker grout like you have in the 3rd photo. They all look great, good luck!!

    1. Thank you for the great advice! Maybe when the time finally comes (SOON, I HOPE), I'll do the bright colors and darker grout and a photo gallery to boot -- I'll figure it out. I LOVE your blog, by the way. Thank you so much for stopping by!

  3. The fourth one seems legit! It's simple yet very pretty, especially the tiles used. And just imagine if those jars were to give off some sort of fragrant aroma from the compounds inside! That would make that bathroom extraordinary! But the last one looks good too! It has a pleasant environment. :)
